Larry Dean Boone, 83, of Dale Road in Spruce Pine, passed away on April 8, 2026, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.
He was born on January 23, 1943, in Mitchell County to the late Fred James Boone and Wilma Young Boone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Fowler Boone, and his brother, Jerry Boone. He is survived by his children: Terri Williams (Colin) of Spruce Pine, Toni Crowder (Mark) of Spruce Pine, and Ted Muncy (Alex) of Swannanoa; his brother, Tommy Boone (Sandra) of Black Mountain; and his sister, Shelley Myers (the late Dean Myers) of Spruce Pine. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Shana Jenkins (Aaron), Adam Williams, Ashley Hughes (Kevin), Brandon Muncy (Eryn), Andrew Crowder, Alyssa Williams (Tim), and Sarah Bartlett (Brian); and his great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Jackson, Blakely, Lindsay, Jayden, Owen, Grayson, Victoria, and Salem.
Larry was a graduate of Bowman High School and later attended East Tennessee State University. He and his family moved from Asheville to run the family store, L & B Grocery for a short while. He retired from Kearfott where he worked in guidance and navigation fabrication.
Larry was an avid Carolina basketball fan—Tar Heel blue ran deep. He loved talking and sharing stories from the past, and he was known for his incredible memory. He had an impeccable eye for design. His attention to detail was unmatched.
A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Berry Chapel in Spruce Pine, with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. A private graveside service will follow.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice, as well as the nurses and staff at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, for the exceptional care provided to Mr. Boone.
