Betty Jean Ramsey

Betty Jean Ramsey, age 80, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Born on June 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Claude Norwood and Ruth Byers Norwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother “Bud” Norwood, sister Dorothy Arnett and her beloved husband, Frank Melvin Ramsey.

Betty was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and making homemade crafts, and she was always careful to make the most of what she had. Betty loved the Lord and was a faithful member of several churches throughout her life. More than anything, she loved her family and will always be remembered as a loving mother, sister, and Granny. Her love, wisdom, and caring heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gary Ramsey (Karen); her daughter, Susan Eldridge (Matt); her sister, Bonnie Mae Horney (Tim); her brother, Homer Norwood (Linda); ten grandchildren, Tiffany Woody, Luke Ramsey, Daniel Wise, Megan Hall, Emma Eldridge, Hank Eldridge, Kellie Ramsey, Stephanie Ramsey, Michael Ramsey, and Kyle Wheelon; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Beam Funeral Service in Marion, NC. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. G.E. Freeman officiating. The interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Banner Elk.
