Guynell Lula Wright Vess

Guynell Lula Wright Vess, 75, of Lake Lure, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Rutherfordton on October 30, 1950 to the late Theodore Wright and Lula Searcy Wright.

Guynell was a lifelong member of Cedar Creek Holiness Church. She loved the Lord and listening to gospel music. An avid NASCAR fan, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was her favorite driver. Guynell spent lots of her time gardening and growing flowers. Her family meant the world to her, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randy Vess, and her brothers, Wilbur Wright and Marvin Wright (Betty).

She is survived by her husband, Reggie Vess; her daughters, Regina Smith (Robby) and Gloria Duncan (Richard); four grandchildren, Bryan (Amanda), McKenzie (Will), Katie, and Rose; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lina, and Bowen; four sisters, Darcus Wilson, Hazel Mow (Dave), Helen Brown, and Pat Dalton; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wright.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Creek Holiness Church, located at 350 Antioch Road in Lake Lure. The service will be officiated by Revs. Darrell Wright and Keith Jamison. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
