Joyce Ballew Davis

Joyce Ballew Davis, 77, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

She was born on January 4, 1949 in Humboldt County California to the late Garmon Ballew and Wilma Styles Ballew.

Joyce was a very generous woman who enjoyed helping anyone who needed it. She did this often through countless acts of service. This was especially evident in her career as a Registered Nurse as she helped her patients through life’s greatest challenges. Joyce was instrumental in establishing hospice care in McDowell County, a cause that was very dear to her. Her family meant the world to her, and her granddaughter held a very special place in her heart. She truly loved her to the moon and back. More than anything else, Joyce wanted to be remembered as a woman who loved the Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Davis, and two brothers, Wayne Ballew and William Ballew.

She is survived by her children, Sara Ellis (Matthew) and Jason Davis; her granddaughter, Hayden McKenzie Ellis; two brothers, Dale Ballew (Robin) and David Ballew (Christina); and a sister, Sandy Ballew.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastors Ralph Reep and Billy Dean Styles officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
