Gary Greene

Gary Greene, 68, of the Buladean community in Bakersville, North Carolina, passed away on April 15, 2026.

Gary was born on September 28 at Spruce Pine Community Hospital to the late Floyd and Mildred Tipton Greene. He spent his life in Mitchell County and was a man known for his strong work ethic, kind spirit, and love for family. Gary worked as a millwright, farmer, and heavy equipment operator. No matter the job, he approached it with dedication and pride, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.

Outside of work, Gary loved raising cattle and spending time outdoors. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his sons play and coach baseball. Whether it was at the ball field or at home with family, Gary was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.

Gary was known as a fun-loving, hardworking man who truly never met a stranger. His warm personality and genuine kindness made him one of a kind. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Gary knew they were blessed by his friendship and presence.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Greene and Jerry Wayne Greene, and his sister, Norma Lee Greene.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pennie Greene; his sons Justin Greene and wife Kelsey, Jennings Greene and wife Abigail, and Brian Greene and wife Amanda; his grandchildren Easton, Peyton, Piper, and Madison Greene; his brothers Bradley Greene, James Claude Greene and wife Janice, and Terry Greene and wife Deb; his sister Linda Willis; along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

A graveside service will be held at Troutman Cemetery in Buladean on Friday, April 17 at 1:00 PM. A memorial service and celebration of life will follow on April 19 at 4:00 PM at Lavonia Crest.

Gary’s legacy of hard work, love for family, and welcoming spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
