Brenda "Mimi" Matthews Buchanan

Brenda Matthews Buchanan, (Mimi) age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Plumtree, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family on February 4, 2026.

Brenda was born on April 14, 1941, to the late Johnny and Frances Matthews. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was rooted in love for her family.

Those who knew Brenda will remember her for her caring heart, steady presence, and the deep love she poured into every generation of her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Chick Buchanan; her children, Annette Johnson (Gary), Darla Turbyfill (Brad), and Kerry Buchanan (Karen); her sister, Gail Chapman; her brother, Larry Matthews; her special niece, Andrea McKinney, and her son, Bryce McKinney; and her grandchildren, Josh Johnson (Leah), Sydnie Forbes (Preston), Noah Turbyfill (Emily), Logan Avery (Graham), Elijah Buchanan (Ayla), Lakota Turbyfill (Todd Grindstaff), and Jaxson Buchanan.

She also leaves behind five cherished great-grandchildren: Emily, Lilly, Bethany Forbes, Callan Johnson, and Asa Avery.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Brenda’s special nurses, Tammy Henson, Penny Hughes, and Brooke Barrier, for their compassionate care, kindness, and support.

Brenda’s legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply, and she will be forever missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A graveside service will be held at McCoury’s Rock Church at 11 am Friday, February 6th, with Michael Burnop officiating. Lucas McKinney will provide special music, singing “Welcome Home,” a meaningful tribute in honor of Brenda’s life and faith.
