Winston “Jr” Lee Dalton, 81, of McDowell County, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
He was born on November 19, 1943, at Rutherford Hospital to the late Alvin and Beth Dalton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Steve and Terry Dalton; his first wife, Ivarea Ledbetter Dalton; and great-grandsons Winston and Stetson Vess; and two infant sisters.
Jr worked at Broyhill Furniture for more than 30 years before retiring, later enjoying a second career at the Marion Lake Club. A hard worker with a big heart, he found his greatest joy in being with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 18 years, Sharon Addison Dalton; his brother Jerry Dalton; his son Todd Dalton; daughter Tonya Waycaster (Kenny); and daughter he loved as his own Kristi Lankford (Russell). He was “Papaw” to his six grandchildren—Kristyn Grindstaff (David), Jonathan Carroll (Jamie), Karlee Vess (Jennings), Matthew Carroll (Madi), Caleb Dalton (Megan), and Ivy McClure (Branson)—and grandchildren he loved as his own—Gage Parkins (Emily), Katie Davis (Blake), and Abbie Brown (Jake). He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. He also leaves behind a host of loved ones and friends who will cherish his memory.
Jr loved golfing, fly fishing, and traveling to Pigeon Forge—especially Dollywood. Known for his quick wit and mischievous grin, he never missed an opportunity to share a joke, pull a prank, or speak his mind with unfiltered honesty and humor. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and family memories that will be cherished forever.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.
