William Latten Soule, Jr., 86, of Newland, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
A native of Pensacola, Florida, Bill was born February 25, 1939 to the late William Latten Soule and Mary Oliver Soule.
A proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1961, Bill formed a lifelong partnership with his wife, Peggy, whom he met during his college years while she was a student at Saint Mary's College. He remained a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football.
Bill had a successful career working alongside his father and brothers at Soule Construction Company, contributing to the family legacy and building lasting connections within the community. His dedication to his work was paralleled by his passion for supporting his children and grandchildren, attending countless sports games and activities, cheering them on with love and enthusiasm.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Bill served his country honorably as a United States Army veteran, in the Berlin Brigade from 1962 to 1963. Bill was an avid golfer who also enjoyed sailing, and he often savored the simple pleasure of sharing a good glass of bourbon with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Soule and a sister, Bunny Gamble.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret “Peggy” Meyer Soule; five children, Bill “Beer” Soule, Mimi Soule Taylor, Bobby Soule (Kathy), KC Soule Gies (Eric), and Danny Soule (Jen); grandchildren, Margo Taylor-Urrea, Emma Taylor, Sarah Gies Cristiano, Ana Soule Swagler, Jackson Taylor, Mary-O Soule, Katie Gies, Stephen Gies, Will Soule, Tommy Gies, Thalia Soule, Leo Soule, and Zoe Soule; and three siblings, Gay Soule Duncan, Cindy Soule Davis (Tommy), and John Soule (Susan).
A Mass will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 2085 NC 105, Linville, NC 28646 with Fr. Christopher Gober officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Hospice in Avery County in Bill’s memory.
