On the evening of Monday, December 15, 2025, William Cabbel “WC” Newman, Sr., age 85, of Marion, passed away at Autumn Care of Marion.

WC enjoyed a distinguished career, contributing his expertise to various businesses including Nu Southern Dye and Finishing Co. and Roses Warehouse, all based in Henderson, North Carolina. His legacy is one that reflects integrity and commitment, values that he held dear throughout his professional life.
Beyond his contributions to the workforce, WC had a multitude of passions that enriched his life. Fast cars, especially Corvettes, captured his heart. Horses were another significant part of his life; he took pride in formerly showing horses. In addition to these pursuits, WC found joy in tending to his garden, which flourished under his attentive care, and he cherished countless hours playing spades with family and friends. An avid sports fan, WC held a special place in his heart for the UNC Tarheels and the Atlanta Braves, passionately following their journeys and victories.
Those left to cherish his memory are four children, William Cabbel Newman, Jr. “Chip” (Paula) of Marion, Patrick “Todd” Newman (Tami) of Marion, Donna Newman Thompson (Joey) of Henderson, and Paige Newman Alford (Tim) of Carolina Beach; eight grandchildren, Kasey Newman Phelan (Tim), Blake Newman, Taylor Newman, Trevor Newman, Meredith Thompson Manning (Chris), Hannah Thompson Abshire, Hunter Nelms, and Colin Nelms; five great-grandchildren, Norah Phelan, Davis Manning, Noah Manning, Miles Manning, and Piper Abshire; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Libba” Newman Pegram (George) and Elsie Newman “Otchie” Pearce; three nieces, Jane Pegram Haithcock (Tommy), Lisa Pegram Simmons (Steve), and Jodi Pearce Massey (Shane); and one nephew, Alan Pegram (Audrey).
