William "Danny" Long

William “Danny” Long, 77, of Marion, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.

A lifelong resident of McDowell County, Danny was born on December 21, 1947 to the late Earl Edward Long and Edna Nancy Norton Long.

Danny obtained an Associate Degree from Nashville Auto Diesel College, and he spent his career as a welder. He formerly worked at Air Preheater and later retired in 2013 from Crane Resistoflex. Danny had a passion for sports and cars. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Panthers and UNC Tarheels. He enjoyed following NASCAR and drag racing, and he will be remembered for his love of Corvettes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Robert Long, Celia Loftis, and Brenda Jenkins.

He is survived by three children, Dawn McGhee (John), Dion Long (Beth), and Scott Long (Angela); four grandchildren, Casey Moser, Josh Gallion, Camryn Brinkley, and Hudson Long; and four great-grandchildren, Stella Gallion, Axill Gallion, Holly Brinkley, and Hazel Brinkley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.

A private graveside service will be held at McDowell Memorial Park.
