Wesley “Wes” Duane Dowdle, age 50, of Morganton, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Born in Rutherford County on September 12, 1975, Wes was a man who loved deeply and cared fiercely for the people closest to him. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed the freedom of the open road. Wes was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed NC State, the Atlanta Braves, and WWE wrestling. He also had an incredible memory for movies, television shows, music, and trivia.
More than anything, Wes loved his family. His greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Kayla, whom he affectionately called “Sissy.” He adored his grandchildren, Harper and Easton, and treasured every moment spent with them.
Wes shared a close and special bond with his parents, Bill and Carolyn, whose love and support never wavered and only grew stronger through the years. He also deeply loved his brothers, Tim and Daniel, and cherished the many memories they shared growing up together.
Being an uncle brought Wes tremendous joy. At family gatherings, it was almost expected that he would be the first one to slip away from the adults to spend time with the kids. He was always quick to get down in the floor beside them, fully immersed in whatever game or adventure they wanted to play, making each of them feel important and loved.
He shared an especially close bond with his nephews Austin and Lane, whom he often spoke of as being like the sons he never had. Wes also adored his niece Taylor, often saying she was one of the kindest and sweetest people he had ever met. Most recently, he cherished the close friendship and special bond he shared with his best buddy Murphy Lee Dowdle, who lovingly called him “Uncle A.”
Wes will be remembered for his huge heart, his loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family. Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his family finds comfort in the memories and special moments he leaves behind.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kayla Rogers (Justin); two grandchildren, Harper Rogers and Easton Rogers; his parents, Bill and Carolyn Dowdle; two brothers, Tim Dowdle (Melinda) and Daniel Dowdle (Casey); six nephews, Austin, Lane, Murphy, Everett, Drake, and Braxton; and one niece, Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
