Walter Andrew Hensley, 92, of Old Fort, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain.
Walter was born in Burke County, NC on March 1, 1933, to the late Jeter Hensley and Pansy Grindstaff Hensley. He was married to the late Betty Hall Hensley. Walter served his country proudly with the United States Army. He was a lifelong mechanic and was known throughout the community for repairing tractors. He loved gardening and enjoyed sharing his harvest with neighbors. Most of all, Walter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a kind hearted friend to all. He will always be loved and missed.
In addition to his wife and parents, Walter was preceded in death by three brothers, Levi Hensley, Paul Hensley, and Rev. Ophard Hensley; and a sister, Geretha Simmons.
He is survived by two sons, Garry Hensley (Karen) and Larry Hensley (Sherry); two grandchildren, Brandon Hensley (Dana) and Andrew Hensley; and three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Chesney, and Easton Hensley.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2025, at Salem Freewill Baptist Church in Old Fort. Rev. Austin Bullock will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Bethlehem Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the Church.
