Vickey Nelson

Vickey Owens Nelson, age 63, of Marion, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord on the evening of Wednesday, June 09, 2021 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville.  The daughter of the late John Lewis Owens, Sr. and Edith White Owens, she was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on August 05, 1957.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Lynn Nelson.

For many years Vickey was a Certified Nursing Assistant for Autumn Care of Marion.  Following the passing of her daughter, Terri, she raised two of her grandchildren as if they were her own children.  Prior to losing her vision Vickey enjoyed reading. 

She is survived by three children, Jeffery Nelson; Ashley Riddle and her fiancé, Ethan Conner and Derrick Riddle; four brothers, John Owens, Bobby Owens, Terry Owens and Steve Owens; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Marion with Rev. Dr. M. Scott Hagaman officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
