Verlin Danny Vess, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at Mission Memorial Hospital. Born on February 3, 1948, in McDowell County, Danny lived a life full of love, family, and cherished hobbies.
Danny was a beloved husband to Barbara Vess, with whom he spent 58 wonderful years. He was a devoted father to Kirk Vess and Keith Vess (Glynda), who, along with their families, will carry on his legacy. Danny also took great pride in being a grandfather to Nathan Vess, David Vess and his wife Katelyn, Abby Vess, Andrew Vess, and Caty Mann, as well as a great-grandfather to Ramos Vess. Also surviving his siblings, Jeanette Revis, Christine Johnson, Joyce Grindstaff, Russell Vess and Wayne Vess. His love for his family was evident, particularly during the many get-togethers they shared.
Danny had a personality that shone brightly, and his passions were diverse. He enjoyed working with older cars and had an avid enthusiasm for NASCAR racing. Equally skilled in woodworking, Danny found joy in crafting items that brought beauty into the lives of those around him. His fishing excursions with his family and best friend, Jimmy Quinn, are fondly remembered as an expression of the camaraderie and adventure they shared.
In addition to his parents, Ollis and Annie Davis Vess, he was also preceded in death by his daughter Annette Jean Vess and three brothers, Virgil Vess, Lester Vess, and Steve Vess, who are deeply missed.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion, NC, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Reverend David Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at the McDowell Memorial Park.
