Vance Drew Thompson, Jr.

Vance Drew Thompson, Jr., 76, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital.

A native of McDowell County, he was born on February 26, 1946 to the Mary Martin Thompson and the late Vance Drew Thompson, Sr.

Vance worked in the furniture industry his entire life. He will be remembered as a good-hearted man who had a smile all the time. Vance always told things straight. He loved the Lord and enjoyed gospel music.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Judy Johnson Thompson who he loved dearly and a sister, Glenda Mace.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three children, Sherry Thompson, Vicki Bates (Tony), and Richard Thompson (Cherie Marcy); six grandchildren, Danielle, Cherish, Brandon, Kayla, Dason, and Scarlett; ten great grandchildren; five brothers, Aaron Thompson, Waynon Thompson, James Thompson, Dennis Thompson, and Ernest “Pete” Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Revs. Michael Goings and Kenny Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
