Rev. Van Harold Davis

Rev. Van Harold Davis, 85, of Marion, went to be with the Lord at Autumn Care on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Harold was born in McDowell County on April 1, 1938 to the late Chester Evan Davis and the late Mabel Rice Davis.

He and his wife Joyce organized Faith Tabernacle Church on March 8, 1964 in a mission church on Carolina Ave. They built and moved into the new church on East Court Street in 1980. He was known as being a “poor man’s preacher” and was also a mentor to many young preachers. He was always very dedicated to his church. Harold was a man who always cared for others in need.

Preceding Harold in death are his mother-in-law, Dora Nichols and his two sons-in-law, Steve Silver and Mike Leonard.

Harold is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Joyce Nichols Davis; his four daughters, Rebecca Ann Ellison (David), Donna Kaye Leonard, Vandalyn Diane Rose (Brian) and Maria Alaina Dirhold; a brother, Douglas Davis (Louise); seven grandchildren, Jonathan Leonard, Lori Ellison, Philip Leonard, Sarah Ellison, Emily Bartlett, Caitlin Holbert and Landon Dirhold and twelve great grandchildren, Kaleb, Chandler, Makayla, Ava, Alli, Jaxson, Jensen, Adalie, Grant, Roland, Graysen and Tinley. Also surviving are many loved ones who he called his adopted children.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Faith Tabernacle Church 905 East Court St. Marion NC 28752. Receiving of friends will take place one hour prior to the service at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. The Revs. Marvin McCall and Richard Anderson will officiate the service.
