Troy Eugene Williams, affectionately known as “Skip,” passed away on October 1, 2026, at Charles George VA Hospital. He was born on April 18, 1948, in McDowell County. His passing marks the loss of a devoted family man, a faithful church member, and a man whose life reflected service, dedication, and steadfast love.
Mr. Williams served his country with honor for twenty-six years in the United States Army and for eight years in the National Guard. His years of military service stood as a lasting testament to his commitment, discipline, and sense of duty. In his former working life, he was employed at Cross Cotton Mill, Gayley and Lord, and Air Preheater, where he gave of himself through many years of hard work.
A man of strong faith, Troy was a member of Addie’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved sports and spent many years officiating, bringing his enthusiasm and fairness to the games he enjoyed so much. He also loved watching westerns, a simple pleasure that brought him enjoyment over the years. Above all, he loved his family and his church family, and that love remained at the heart of his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Sabrina Williams Buchanan, and her husband, Ronnie; his granddaughter, Brittani Crawley; his grandson, Jordan Moore; and his sisters, Betty Lynch and Callie Cash and her husband, Joseph. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be remembered with love by those closest to him, and his presence will be deeply missed by the family he cherished so dearly.
A visitation will be held on October 6, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Beam Celebration Center, 2170 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. With Reverend Walter Pegues. Interment with military honors will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Troy Eugene “Skip” Williams will be remembered for his years of service, his love of family, his devotion to his church, and the steady way he lived his life. May his memory bring comfort and peace to all who knew and loved him.
