Thomas “Tommy” Henry Wright, 76, of Marion, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at Autumn Care of Marion, surrounded by his family.
Tommy was born on July 2, 1949, in Haywood County to the late Lewis Corbett Wright and Jane Owenby Wright. He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Arlo Wright, and his brother, Tim Wright.
Tommy was a wonderful father and a deeply devoted family man. He was known for his strong work ethic and spent his life working as a skilled millwright and welder. He took great pride in owning his own business and in the work of his hands. Tommy was a provider in every sense of the word—his family, both by blood and by choice, never went without.
He had a generous heart and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. His home was always open, and no one was ever turned away. No matter how many friends showed up, Tommy simply made more food. He was a phenomenal cook, and feeding people was one of the many ways he showed his love.
Tommy was quick to make friends and had a way of making people feel welcome wherever he went. He loved to laugh and brought a sense of humor and lightness to those around him. He also had a deep love for the open road and could often be found riding his Harleys, enjoying the freedom and peace it brought him.
He was a practical man—if something couldn’t be fixed, he didn’t waste time worrying about it. He carried himself with quiet strength and steady perspective, making life feel simpler for those around him. He had a special love for children, especially babies, and never missed an opportunity to smile, connect, and enjoy their presence.
More than anything, Tommy will be remembered for the way he loved—generously, steadily, and without hesitation. His presence brought comfort, his laughter brought joy, and his life left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Wright and Lauren Wright, who loved him deeply and will carry his memory forward with pride. He is also survived by Elizabeth Abshire, the mother of his children, who remained an important part of his life and was a great help in his care in recent years; his brothers, Terry Wright (Lynn) and Tony Wright (Laura); his sisters, Yvonne Miskolczi (Dave), Debbie Boley (Jerry), and Tracy Martin (Ben); his grandchildren, Arlo Wright, Aidan Wright, and Asa Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and cherished.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
