Thelma Marie Stamey Williams

Thelma Marie Stamey Williams, 88, of Marion, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Avery County, she was born May 2, 1937 to the late Floyd and Linnie Mace Stamey.

Marie was a loving mother who took great care of her family. She enjoyed frequent phone conversations with each member of her family to make sure they were safe and well. Holiday gatherings always did her heart good. Marie was wholly devoted to the Lord and attended Faith Baptist Church as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed flowers and working outside.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Earl Williams; son, Jerry Williams; son-in-law, Wayne Duckworth; grandchild, Michael Williams; great-great-grandson, Samuel; and five siblings, Artie Clark, MacDonald Stamey, Elmer Stamey, Melvin Stamey, and Robert Stamey.

She is survived by four children, Ann Williams Duckworth, Wayne Williams (Betty), Steve Williams (Penny), and Leonard Williams (Diana); one sister, Vivian Browning (Paul); daughter-in-law, Faye Williams; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Revs. Bert Williams and Doug Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
