Sylvia Ann Mullis Barrier

Sylvia Ann Mullis Barrier, 74, of Old Fort, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born in Monroe, North Carolina on July 18, 1950 to the late Kirby Mullis and Dorothy Newsome Mullis.

Sylvia formerly worked for McDowell County Family Services. She was a loving mother, and she lived her life for her children and especially her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Sylvia was always smiling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Barrier; son, Trey Barrier; two infant children, Shane and Randi; and two sisters, Louise and Teresa.

She is survived by two sons, Seth Barrier (Susan) and Josh Barrier; daughter-in-law, Tammy Barrier; seven grandchildren, Aiden, Ellen, Jesse, Cole, Makayla, Emma, and Cayden; and four siblings, Carolyn, Lela, Kim, and Stacy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
