It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Rebecca McClure on May 27, 2026, at the age of 71. Susan gracefully departed this world at home in the loving embrace of her family, fulfilling her deepest wish to be surrounded by those she cherished most.
Born on May 7, 1955, in Morganton, NC, Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Ned and Dorothy Murray. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Rockett, who passed on March 22, 1982, and her dear brother, James “Abe” Murray. Despite these profound losses, Susan's spirit remained unyielding and resilient, a testament to her enduring strength and the fighting spirit for which she was fondly known.
Susan was blessed to share 41 beautiful years with her loving spouse, Manuel “Mike” McClure, whom she married on June 1, 1984. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures, a testament to their unwavering bond. Susan was a devoted mother to Kristen Rockett Thien, who, along with her husband Scott Thien, brought immeasurable joy to Susan's life. She was also the proud mother of Dustin McClure, who, alongside his wife Savannah McClure, filled her days with warmth and happiness. Susan's legacy is further carried forward by her cherished grandchildren, Mariah Thien, Colin McClure, and Ashlynn McClure, who brought endless delight to her days. Her niece, Tish Murray, also held a special place in her heart.
Susan's career journey began in the medical support field, where she dedicated much of her young life to caring for others. Her entrepreneurial spirit later led her to establish her own medical transcription business, where her dedication and expertise flourished.
A passionate advocate for animals, Susan was particularly enamored with miniature horses. In 1998, she realized her dream by founding Silverbelle Farms, a haven where her love for miniature horses and donkeys could shine. Her commitment to these gentle creatures and her role as a founding member and president of the Western North Carolina Miniature Horse Club reflected her unwavering passion and dedication.
Susan's love of nature and her adventurous spirit were hallmarks of her character. She found joy in traveling and spending precious moments with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.
A celebration of Susan's remarkable life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., at Beam Funeral Service, located at 2170 Rutherford Road, Marion, NC 28752. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of the McDowell Hospice, whose kindness and support allowed Susan the comfort of spending her final days at home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Hospice of McDowell County (http://www.hospicecarefoothills.org) in Susan's honor.
Susan Rebecca McClure will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her boundless love for family and animals, and her unwavering zest for life. Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
