Sulton Evon Jones

     Sulton Evon Jones, 83, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton.

 

     Sulton was born in Pamlico County, NC on January 11, 1941. He was a State Trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, with whom he retired after many years of dedicated service. He later worked at Drexel Heritage Furniture, with whom he also retired. Sulton was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and playing golf. He was a member of Gideons International and was a devoted member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. For many years, he was an adult men’s Sunday School teacher and was Chairman of the Deacons. He was involved with several mission trips and was active in local community work with the Fishers of Men Class. Sulton loved the Lord with all his heart and was dedicated to his family. He will be greatly missed.  

 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Jones and Ethel Banks Jones; and several brothers and sisters.

 

     Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Ellen Jordan Bunch Jones; four sons, Charles “Chuck” Jones (Pamela), Christopher Jones, Reginald “Reggie” Jones, and Mark Jones; two sisters, Vona Bazen (Bobby) and Ruth DeCamp; two brothers, Norman Banks (Carolyn) and Joel Banks; five grandchildren, Lindsey Jones, Chloe Jones, Dylan Jones, Michael Jones, and Joshua Jones; a great granddaughter, Delilah Jones; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

     A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

 

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Gardens Community Center, Attention Fishers of Men Ramp Building P.O. Box 2856, Marion, NC 28752.
