Ralph Stephen Simmons, known to family and friends as “Steve”, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at, at Stone Creek Health & Rehabilitation in Asheville. He was under the care of Four Seasons Hospice and CCLD of Swannanoa, NC. His oncology team at Messino Cancer Center, Dr Andrew Beardsley, and his wonderful staff, our family wishes to express sincere gratitude for your compassionate and dedicated care."

Steve was born on August 23, 1949 in McDowell County.

Steve, throughout his life, demonstrated his God-fearing nature by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community.

He was dedicated to his church family at Little Ivy Baptist Church in Mars Hill.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family. One of his greatest joys was watching them succeed and grow. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He possessed a love for fishing and hunting. His true passion, however, was hunting, especially with his son Scott. They shared countless memories of their trips together.

He was a passionate Tennessee Volunteer fan and was known for his unwavering dedication to the team.

Steve was an active member of the Blackmer Masonic Lodge in Weaverville, NC, and its involvement and commitment to fellowship, self-improvement, and service to others.

He proudly served in the United States Army.

Steve was a dedicated employee of Southern Bell (AT&T), for 39 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Dean Simmons and Miriam Glenn Bennett, and stepfather, Lloyd D Bennett; brother, Wylie Dean Simmons; and grandparents, Frank D. Glenn and Mildred C. Glenn.

He is survived by two children, Stephanie Allison (Ronnie) and Scott Simmons (Eris); his former spouse and best friend, Kay Simmons; one sister, Susan Bennett Vick; one sister-in-law, Nancy L. Beck (Jim); seven grandchildren, Angel Lewis (Russell), Madison Davis (Justin), Landon Simmons, Logan Simmons, Jada Allison (Zack), Harley Allison (Maddison), and Carter Allison; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Lewis, Meredith Lewis and Oaklynn Wright.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Dotson, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be at McDowell Memorial Park.
