Steve Simmons

Steve Simmons, 75, of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Stone Creek Health & Rehab in Asheville. Steve, throughout his life, demonstrated his god-fearing nature by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community. He was dedicated to his church family at Little Ivy Baptist Church in Mars Hill.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family. One of his greatest joys was watching them succeed and grow. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He possessed a love for fishing and hunting. His true passion, however, was hunting, especially with his son Scott. They shared countless memories of their trips together. He was a passionate Tennessee Volunteer fan. He was known for his unwavering dedication to the team. Steve was an active member of the Blackmer Masonic Lodge in Weaverville, NC, and its involvement and commitment to fellowship, self-improvement, and service to others. He proudly served in the United States Army. His civilian career spanned thirty nine years with Bell South.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Dean Simmons and Miriam Glenn Bennett and step father, Lloyd Bennett; brother, Dean Simmons; and grandparents, Frank D. Glenn, Mildred C. Glenn. 

He is survived by two children, Stephanie Allison (Ronnie) and Scott Simmons (Eris); his former spouse and best friend, Kay Simmons; one sister, Susan Bennett Vick; seven grandchildren, Angel Lewis, Madison Davis (Justin), Landon Simmons, Logan Simmons, Jada Allison, Harley Allison, and Carter Allison; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Lewis, Meredith Lewis and Oaklynn Wright.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Dotson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at McDowell Memorial Park.
