Stephen Wayne Smith

Stephen Wayne Smith, 69, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at his residence.

A native of Burke County, Steve was born November 09, 1952 to the late Ernest Hunter Smith and Mary Duckworth Smith.

Steve was an easy-going man that got along with everyone. He was a wonderful mentor and friend to all. He loved his family and was always good to them, and he had a heart of gold. He was a devout Christian who truly loved the Lord. He could often be heard reading his Bible aloud or singing “The Old Ship of Zion” in his bedroom each night.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by seven siblings, Richard Smith, Ernest Smith, Jr., Louise Roper, Joanne Bollinger, Ione Speagle, Donna Costner, and Doris Smith.

He is survived by two sisters, Arlene Mayfield and Helen Gwyn; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece and great nephew, Bobbie Jo Bollinger and Kolten Hildebrand.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Charlie Bradley officiating.
