Shirley Evelyn Moody

Shirley Evelyn Moody, 83, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Deer Park.

A native of McDowell County, she was born July 11, 1939 to the late Lem Edgar Moody and Nelda Hall Moody. She is also preceded in death by a son, Gary Pyatt; and four siblings, Lloyd Moody, Pauline Moody, Alyne Lawing, and Tranis Moody.

Shirley was an excellent caregiver, especially for her family. She was a hard worker throughout her whole life. For over 40 years, she worked in textiles as a weaver, and then she began a second career in home care often caring for patients younger than herself. Shirley was a very talented singer, and she enjoyed doing so.

She is survived by four children, Terry Pyatt (Diane), Sandra Cannon, Tonya Barker (Richard), and Jerry Pyatt; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one on the way; one great-great grandchild; and three sisters, Lillian Hodge, Shelia Lockee, and Vickie Morgan.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Warren officiating.
