Shirley Jeanette Forney Avery

Shirley Jeanette Forney Avery, 77, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her residence.

She was born in Woodruff, South Carolina on December 30, 1946 to the late Reba Forney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "JR" Avery, Sr.; a grandson, William Eric Avery, Jr., a granddaughter, Tomeka Lindsey; and a special furry friend, Penny.

Shirley worked at Rose Hill Retirement Community for many years. It brought her great joy to care for others, and she did so all her life. Shirley enjoyed fishing, music, and watching classic movies and television shows. She had a special place in her heart for dogs and treated her pets as her own children. She was a good friend and a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her companion of over 25 years, David Logan; six children, Warren Forney, Valerie Avery, Eric Avery, Sr., Sharon Landrum (Reece), Robert Avery; and Crystal Hayer (Joe); her brother, Allen Forney (Mary); one aunt, Betty Westmoreland; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and her special dog, Parrish.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Burial will follow at McDowell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
