Sarah Margaret "Smick" Lindsey Baxter

Mrs. Sarah Margaret Lindsey Baxter, age 85, of the West Marion community, went quietly and unexpectedly on Thursday, September 1, 2022. She was born in McDowell County on November 15, 1936 to the late William Hall Lindsey and Sarah Pearson Lindsey.

Mrs. Baxter was a faithful member of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She was known to love all types of sports. In her younger days she enjoyed bowling, softball, football and basketball. She also enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Baxter, and her son Johnny Alexander Lindsey.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Baxter; one son, Johnny Alexander Lindsey; four brothers, Allen Eugene Lindsey, Benny Lindsey, William Hall Lindsey (Yvonne) and Charles Ray Lindsey (Sheila).

Survivors include her three sons; Sidney William Butler III, Keith Roderick Butler Sr., James Allen Butler; one brother James “Tody” Lindsey; one sister Margaret Walker; four grandchildren, Ijuana Butler, Ajouli Walton (Julian), Keith Butler Jr. (Krystal) and Jeremiah R. Butler; five great grandchildren, Tashiyah Butler, Temazia Butler, Tomarah Butler, Tehya Jones and Teagan Jones; special nephew Antoine Lindsey; special nieces Nikeya Lindsey and Shibreia Lindsey; special cousin, Cara Wilkerson.

A funeral service will be held, on Sunday September 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the McDowell Cemetery in Marion. Those serving as Pallbearers include Vic Morman, Donta Mosley, Keeva Moore, Keith Butler Jr., Jeremiah Butler and Antoine Lindsey Jr.
