Sandra Washburn

On the morning of Friday, March 4, 2016, Mrs. Sandra Laughridge Washburn, age 68, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord at her residence.  A native of McDowell County, born September 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Neil and Ernestine Medlin Laughridge.

A devoted Christian, Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and neighbor.  Following over 40 years of service, she retired from McDowell County Department of Social Services, where she met and built many friendships.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Martin.

She is survived by one son, Joe Washburn, Jr. (Amy); three daughters, Jessica Washburn, Jeneil Washburn and Jeanna Washburn; one sister, Marie Howell; two brothers, Eugene Laughridge (Libby) and Tim Laughridge (Sharon) and four grandchildren, Maggie Gouge, Crishawna Martin, Carissa Martin and Criserin Martin.  Sandra is also survived by her former husband and good friend, Joe Ervin Washburn, Sr.; a number of nieces, nephews and a large extended family. 

A funeral service will be held, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmy Upton and Rick Wood officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
