Samuel Martin Brown

March 1, 1947 — July 9, 2023

Nebo

Samuel Martin Brown, 76, of Nebo, North Carolina, peacefully went to be with His Lord and Savior at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Onslow County on March 1, 1947, to the late Lyman Brown and Myrtie Richardson Brown. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Freida Brown, and his siblings, E.K. Brown, Frank Brown, and Eloise Parker.

He was employed with Burns Security for over twenty years in Southport, NC. He loved Jesus and was not shy about sharing his faith with others in hopes that they would come to know his Heavenly Father. He was an avid NASCAR fan, but really, he was not partial to any sport – he loved them all! He was known by many different names throughout his life. Some of which were “Sam,” “Sammy,” “Daddy,” and “Grandpa Sammy.” He was the President of the Resident Council at Deer Park Health and Rehabilitation where he lived for eleven years. He made many friends during his time there and was loved by all. His family and friends will miss his physical presence here but are greatly comforted by knowing that, “to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

His memory will be cherished by his four children, Angelia Peterson (Doug), Stephanie Roof, Tina Oswald, and Paul Oswald; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Bagunu (Abram), Sophia Peterson, Olivia Peterson, Ella Peterson, Korie Roof (Charlotte), Jarett Roof, Nicole Oswald, and Quantina Dolbow (Andrew) and eight great grandchildren, Graham Bagunu, Baby Bagunu (on the way), Angelique Roof, Alyssa Roof, Kindel Roof, Dillon Roof, Atticus Roof, and Alba Roof.

The family will be receiving friends prior to a graveside service with Reverend Danny White officiating. Please contact the family for the specific details as they would love to see you and hear all the stories you can share as they celebrate Sam's life.
