Sammy Eddie Whitson, 69, of Nebo, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025 at UNC Health Blue Ridge.
A native of McDowell County, he was born on June 12, 1956 to the late Lucy Vaughn Whitson. In his earlier years, Sam was employed as a lineman. He enjoyed tinkering, and he will be remembered for his ability to fix anything. He loved life and had an easy-going and goodhearted spirit about him. He went out of his way to help others and was a very giving person. A wonderful father, brother, and grandfather, Sam truly loved his family.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Sammy Whitson, Jr. and a brother, Ernest Whitson.
He is survived by two daughters, DeAnn Whitson and Brandy Whitson; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Betty Curtis (Gary), Arlene Crowe (Norman), and Marty Hensley.
In keeping with his wishes, no services are planned at this time.
