Rose Bates Abbott, age 77, passed away peacefully at the Upstate Community Hospice House on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Born on October 25, 1948, she was the daughter of the late George Bates Jr. and Virginia Carroll Bates. In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Willow Ferguson.

Rose was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family. She had a gentle and caring spirit and will be remembered for the love she shared with those around her. Rose had many interests and enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls, spending time with her beloved cats, and watching birds. She also had a love for horses and especially enjoyed riding. Her warm heart, kind nature, and the memories she created with her family will remain cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Those left to cherish Rose’s memory include her husband of eighteen years, Vaughan Abbott; her son, Tony Ferguson (Felicia); two sisters, Peggy Jones and Deb Firth (Ken); two grandchildren, Melayna Rodriguez (Josh) and Jacob Ferguson (Emily); and three great-grandchildren, Madeline Winslow, Annalee Rodriguez, and Sophia Rodriguez.

Rose’s life was a blessing to her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many special moments shared with her and the love she leaves behind.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, a service will be held at a later date.
