Ronda "Ron" Lee Clemmer

     Ron Clemmer passed from this life on December 20, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC.  He was born in Lowell, N.C. to Truette and Elizabeth Clemmer.

 

     Following graduation from Holbrook High School, he attended Western Carolina University before joining the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country for seven years.  His tours of duty included the U.S.S. Stanley, the U.S.S. America in the Tonkin Gulf off Vietnam as well as a top security position at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  While serving on the America, he was inducted into the Order of Magellan.

 

       In civilian life Ron worked until retirement at Duke Energy as a Nuclear Health Physicist, serving on the start-up teams of five reactors at Oconee and Catawba Nuclear Generating Stations.  He then worked as a Project Manager with General Physics and GTS Duratek at numerous nuclear facilities in the U.S. and Taiwan.

 

       Ron is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Suzette Flowers Clemmer, his son Jeff (Jenny) Bumgarner of Dallas, grandson Lathan (Stephanie) Bumgarner of Charlotte, granddaughter Riley Bumgarner (Luke) Edison of Dallas, N.C., grandson Luke Bumgarner of Wilmington, N.C., great grandsons Luke and Leo Bumgarner of Charlotte, daughter Sandra Leigh Clemmer of Walhalla, S.C., brother Tim Clemmer of Dallas, N.C., sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vicki and Jim Steele of West Jefferson, N.C. and nephew Brent (Cindy) Clemmer of Dallas, N.C.

 

      A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Clinchfield Baptist Church, Marion, N.C. on January 6, at 2:00.

 

      In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Building Fund at Clinchfield Baptist Church in his memory.
