Rocky Lane Truett

Rocky Lane Truett, 64, of Nebo, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 18, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.

He was born in McDowell County on February 16, 1956.

Rocky enjoyed trout fishing with his late father, Bobby Jack Truett. He loved the Lord and was an active member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Rocky was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels and the McDowell Titans. He attended as many Titan games as possible and was a regular in the locker room as well. He was loved immensely by all the coaches, athletes, and fans through the years.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Brenda Truett and Randey Truett.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Howell Truett; aunts and uncles, Bobby and Chrissy Howell, Judy Lloyd, Patricia Mathis, Martha Howell, Jimmy and Sallie Howell, and Donald Jaynes; cousins, Hattie and Ronnie Hollifield; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Due to COVID-19, a private graveside service will be held at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Larry Anderson and Reverend Ray Stockton officiating. A celebration of Rocky’s life will be held at a later date when conditions permit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Bethel Free Will Baptist Church or to McDowell High School Athletics in Rocky’s name.

Rocky will be missed by so many people. The last time I got to see him he was deep into a western. We had stopped by a few minutes to check on Margaret and Rocky. He seemed to enjoy so many things. Margaret, you are in our thoughts and prayers. We loved Rocky and we love you!! May God grant you comfort and peace.

I always looked forward to seeing Rocky at the Basketball Games and got such a kick by having him recognize me by our special greeting (I would blow on his neck and he would say "Is that you Jo?"). What a special person he was and I will miss him. My prayers and thoughts are with your family.
