Roby Casle Reel, age 89, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Mission Hospital McDowell. Roby was born on June 17, 1937, in McDowell County to the late Luther Lee Reel and Elizabeth Morgan Reel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Styles, Ellen Hollifield, Rosetta Buchanan, his brothers, Roland Reel and Leroy Reel; along with his long time partner, Sue Beam.

Roby lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for the land and the people who meant the most to him. He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in farming, gardening, and spending time on his beloved tractor. Working the land was more than just something he enjoyed; it was a way of life. Roby began plowing at just eight years old, and from that young age, he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong passion for farming that never faded. Whether he was tending to his garden, working in the fields, or simply enjoying time outdoors on his tractor, he was happiest when he was working with his hands and being productive.

Roby was also a dedicated and loyal employee, spending an impressive fifty-one years working at Drexel as a stock handler. His many years of service reflected the same commitment, dependability, and strong work ethic that he carried into every aspect of his life. He understood the value of hard work and took pride in all that he did. Above all, Roby had a deep love for his family, especially his parents. He was devoted to them and demonstrated that love through his actions, faithfully caring for them and standing by their side until the very end. His dedication, compassion, and willingness to put their needs before his own spoke volumes about the kind of person he was.

Roby will be remembered as a hardworking man who took pride in what he accomplished, found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, and loved his family deeply. Raised in the church, faith was a part of his upbringing, and toward the end of his life, Roby found his way back to the Lord and made peace with Jesus. This brought a special sense of comfort and peace as he neared the end of his earthly journey. His life was a testament to the value of hard work, loyalty, devotion, and, ultimately, faith. The fields he worked, the gardens he tended, the love he shared, and the memories he created will serve as lasting reminders of a life well lived.

Those left to cherish Roby's memory are numerous family and friends.

In keeping with Roby's wishes no services will be held at this time.
