Roby Earl "Bud" Barrier

Roby Earl “Bud” Barrier, 67, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, March 05, 2022.

He was born in Burke County on September 14, 1954 to the late Roy Ronald Barrier and Virginia Jolene Shell Buchanan. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Barrier Lowman.

Bud worked in lawn care and was very proud of his service. He formerly worked as a long-haul truck driver and was proud of that too. He graduated from Avery High School and will be remembered as being very kind, soft-hearted, compassionate, hardworking, and generous with his time and talents. Always smiling and joking, Bud was a loyal man who loved his family dearly and had many friends.

Bud was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and the beauty of the mountains. He always wore a hat, and he loved animals. His latest hobby was raising chickens and selling their eggs. Bud was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by three sisters, Candace Barrier, Patricia Lafevers, and Roberta Bennett; special friends, LuJuan Harrill, Bob Benfield, Don Effler, Denise and Johnny; and numerous nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Old Fort on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Blackwelder officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.

I just found out about " Bud" and it just broke my heart. I'll never forget the first time I saw him. He was working at a local store and boy was he working! I'd never seen him before and I'd had a horrible day until I saw him...his bright eyes lit up the entire place. His positive attitude along with his sense of humor brought me out of my depressed state within minutes. When he checked me out, we talked and joked, but his love of animals endeared me to him. The last time I saw him with his big blue eyes shining, he said " I was rode hard and put away wet!"...that's never been said to me before and we both laughed our butts off.
His contribution to the animal kingdom is truly something to be admired. If only more men were like him.
I will miss you dearly, Bud.

Dr. Ragan & I are praying for you and your family. We know that God's Grace is sufficient to sustain thee. In times like these HE is our anchor, as the Sweet Holy Spirit or our Lord. He knows our pain during these times. He wept with compassion when he saw Lazareth's sister weeping. It is documented in Holy Scriptures more than once that he wept. His compassion is like no one else's. "He groaned in the spirit, and was troubled over a death." (John 11:35; Luke 19:41; Hebrews 5:7-9). Each is near the end of His life and each reveals what matters most to our loving God. He truly is "touched with the feeling of our infirmities" (Hebrews 4:15). He will sustain you and keep you. Dr. Ed & Kathy.
