Rickey Alan Hensley

The Honorable Mayor Rickey Alan Hensley, 60, of Old Fort, NC went to be with his Lord on March 7, 2024 at 4 p.m. There was rejoicing in heaven as the angels welcomed him home. He had run his race, finished his course and now it was time for him to receive his heart's desire to see his Savior. What a victory!

Rick loved being with nature and being outside working on his Massey Ferguson farm tractor on his small hobby farm. His heart was full of compassion and love for all animals. He had an adventurous soul and truly lived life to its fullest. He brought joy into everyone's lives that he met. He was a stern man that meant what he said, and a handshake was his word. He was an outgoing man and a very hard worker. He always said "a stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet;" however, there was nothing he loved more than his family. He was a great example to those of us left behind, especially to his children.

Rick was born in Buncombe County on February 20, 1964 to Hazel Pittman Hensley and the late Guy Hensley. He is survived by his wife of 28 years "the love of his life," Tonia Hampton. His children Samantha Haney and husband Dustan, Jacob Hensley, Sierra Hensley, Jamie Mills and partner Samantha Revis, Haleigh Mills and partner Matthew Edwards. Three grandchildren Aaron, Scarlett and Ruth Haney. One Sister Debra Hensley Fox, and one Nephew Joshua Pass. And, his four legged dedicated companion "Lu-Lu Hensley." Also included is the Town of Old Fort's people that he had the privilege to represent for 11 years. To say he will be missed is an understatement, but his legacy will live on.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to Mercy Fund Animal Rescue, PO Box 2371, Marion, NC 28752, or any animal rescue of your choice.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. at Old Fort Wesleyan Church with Rev. Phillip Wishon, Sr., Rev. Jeffrey Parker, and Rev. David Blackwelder officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m.
