Richard Lee Smith

Richard Lee Smith, 67, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022 at Mission Hospital McDowell.

He was born on June 04, 1955 in McDowell County to the late Ernest Smith and Selma Jenkins Smith. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Lou Ann Barlowe.

Richard had a love for antique cars and anything that went fast. For many years, he worked as a mechanic. He was a true people person who loved his family and had many friends who he loved as well. He never met a stranger. Richard will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his companion of over 25 years, Becky Bowman; two children, Richard Andrew Smith and Brandi Smith Flynn; six grandchildren; three siblings, Twillia Moore (Tony), Rosetta Wilson (Danny), and Archie Smith (Sandra); a brother-in-law, Donald Barlowe; and his special canine companions, Barney and Frank.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 02, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
