Retha Mae Williams Hicks

Retha Mae Williams Hicks, age 91, of Marion, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 16, 2025 at her home.

A native of Waynesville, North Carolina, Retha was born to the late John Williams and Nola Giles Williams on May 4, 1933. She was known as a hard-worker who loved her family. She had wonderful gardening skills and often grew beautiful flowers, which she truly enjoyed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Riley” Hicks; three children, Wanda Peters, Nola Miller (Eddie), and John Hicks; one grandchild, Blossom Hicks; and all eleven of her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Nancy Hudgins (Mark), Joyce Hicks (Robin), Sue Hicks, and James Hicks (Suprenia); eight grandchildren, Ashley Saine (Adam), Leslie Saine, Michael Minish, Pamela Hicks, Megan Hicks, Scotty Miller, Robert Shelton, and Jennifer Shelton; and seven great-grandchildren, Kane Justus, Mason Hicks, Melody Miller, Sevin Shelton, Gage Shelton, Gavin Shelton, and Maddox Carswell.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be laid to rest privately at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery in Canton.
