Raymond Lanning, Jr., affectionately known as "Radar," passed away peacefully at his residence on June 24, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on July 17, 1973, in McDowell County, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Raymond was known as a jack of all trades, embodying a spirit of generosity that touched the lives of those around him. He was always there to help others, offering his skills and support without hesitation. His love for his family was immeasurable, particularly for his wife, Heather Johnson Lanning, with whom he shared 28 joyful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
As a proud father, Raymond is survived by his son, Stuart Tipton, and his wife, Mindy; and his daughter, Desiree Lanning. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, as he leaves behind three grandchildren: Isabella Tipton, Montgomery Tipton, and Inori Rose, who were the lights of his life.
Raymond was also deeply connected to his siblings, leaving behind his sisters Judy Noblitt, Kathy Lloyd, Jody McGinnis and her husband Rex, and Joanne Honeycutt and her husband Joey. He also leaves his brother Richard Noblitt and his wife Sue.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Lanning, as well as his father, Raymond Lanning Sr., and his mother, Rosalee Harris Broadway.
Outside of his family, Raymond had hobbies that reflected his inquisitive nature. He enjoyed watching the stars and rock hunting, pursuits that showcased his appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Raymond's life during a visitation at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion, North Carolina. This event will take place on June 29, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Raymond Lanning, Jr. will be remembered not only for his unwavering support and love for those closest to him but for his zest for life and the generous spirit he shared with everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will not be forgotten.
