Marion

Rachel Mae Hutchins, 24, of Marion, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026.

She was born in Burke County on April 4, 2002. A devoted admirer of God’s creation, Rachel absolutely loved animals and held a deep reverence for the natural world. Her passion for wildlife led her to pursue her education with dedication and distinction. A proud graduate of McDowell Early College, she continued her academic journey at Lees-McRae College where she earned a Bachelor of Wildlife Biology with a concentration in wildlife rehabilitation. Rachel’s commitment to excellence was evident as she consistently maintained her status as an honors student.

Rachel had the kindest heart and a creative, artistic soul. Her ability to see the good in everyone, regardless of circumstances, was a testament to her generous and loving nature. She cherished the time spent with her family, often traveling together to explore the outdoors. Rachel especially loved hiking, family trips out west, and spending time on the family farm in North Cove.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ron Noble and Isla Fraley Noble, and an uncle, Perry Noble.

Those left to cherish her memory are her precious daughter, Isla Jane Hall; her parents, Timothy and Mindy Hutchins; brother, Laydon James Hutchins; paternal grandparents, Rev. George and Rosemary Hutchins; aunts and uncles, Benny Hutchins (Dawn), Tavia Highsmith, Lisa West (Ross), and Ryan Noble (Glenda); a number of cousins; her cherished dog, Abby; and her beloved horse, Dixie.

A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 79 Academy Street in Marion. Rev. Bill Dages will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
