Polly Smith

In the early morning hours of Monday, January 18, 2021, Mrs. Polly Lanning Smith, age 72, of Marion, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord at Mission Hospital-McDowell.  The daughter of the late Robert Lanning and Emma Lou Morgan Griggs, she was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on May 18, 1948.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Eugene Smith, who passed away on December 25, 2020; and two brothers, Joel Morgan and Max Lanning.

Polly, who had an infectious smile and sense of humor, was known as a hard and loyal worker, even up to when her health began to decline.  Always staying busy, she enjoyed shopping, technology and ancestry searching, but most of all, making precious memories with her family.  Polly was a member of Drexel Christian Center in Drexel, North Carolina.

She is survived by two sons, Tim Smith (Lisa) and Kevin Craig Smith; one daughter, Karen Ricker (Brian); and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Fritts (Ben) and Kierstyn Ricker. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service and Crematory in Marion.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Smith and Rev. Charles Bristle officiating.
