Phyllis Joanne Messer Underwood

Phyllis Joanne Messer Underwood passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on September 24, 1935, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, Phyllis lived a life marked by grace, compassion, and deep devotion to her loved ones.

Throughout her nine decades, Phyllis wove a fabric of connection that bound together her family and friends, nurturing each relationship with warmth and understanding. She was a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, a devoted sister, and a steadfast friend, remembered not only for her kindness but also for her gentle wisdom and unwavering strength.

Phyllis is survived by her beloved children: Packy Ray Underwood (Marcella), Jacqueline Faith Fox, (Randy Dean McKinney). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Packy Underwood (Samantha), Chantel Brown (Randy), Cody Vance, Cortney Kirl, and Dominic Underwood, each one carrying forward pieces of her loving spirit. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Hedge and Betty Lou Kegley.

Phyllis is reunited in eternal peace with her late husband, Phillip Ray Underwood, whose memory she cherished throughout her years.

Her family and all who knew her mourn her passing, but they also celebrate a life well-lived—one that touched so many. Phyllis’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, resilience, and kindness endures in all who were fortunate to know her.

A graveside service honoring Phyllis Joanne Underwood will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mansfield Memorial Park, located at 2507 Park Ave W., Ontario, OH 44906. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, and to say farewell to an extraordinary woman whose gentleness will long be remembered.
