Phyliss June Henson Kazee

Phyliss June Henson Kazee, 60, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Sunday morning, March 5, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Buncombe County on August 30, 1962 to the late Howard Gerald Henson and Clemmie Talitha Anderson Henson.

Phyliss spent her life serving others as a nurse. She worked mostly in nursing homes and truly enjoyed her work. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers. Phyliss was an avid reader who read countless books over her lifetime. She will be remembered by her family and friends as loyal, understanding, strong, independent, and fun. Phyliss was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and sister who will be missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three siblings, Charlie Henson, Howard Henson, Jr., and Anne Love.

She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Kazee (Brittney Ensley); two grandchildren, Brittney Moody, who Phyliss helped raise, and Dillon Jean King; five siblings, Herman Henson (Sheila), Peggy Curnutte (Carl), Linda Miller (Doug), Timothy Henson, and Edward Henson; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m., 30 minutes prior to the service.
