It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Paul David Woody, who left this world on April 15, 2026, at the age of 66. Paul passed peacefully at home in Nebo, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family, after a life rich with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Born on May 29, 1959, in Marion, North Carolina, Paul was the beloved son of the late Charles Shelton and Arettie Cook Woody. He grew up in a close-knit family, sharing his childhood with his brothers, Charles (Cathy), Daniel, Junior (Sheila), and John (Marsha), and his sisters, Rachel Hughes (Dean) and Betty Benge (Vincent). Paul was predeceased by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and devotion to family.
On August 28, 1977, Paul married the love of his life, Cleo P. Woody, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. Their marriage of nearly 49 years was a testament to their deep bond and mutual respect. They were blessed with a son, Paul Brandon Woody, who, along with his wife Tara Wells, brought immense joy to Paul's life.
Paul was a proud grandfather to Gavin Marshall Woody, who, with his wife Lela, gave Paul the gift of a great-granddaughter, Sable Magnolia Woody. The twinkle in Paul's eye was never brighter than when he spoke of his family, and he took great pride in watching them grow and flourish.
Paul's professional journey began at the Cotton Mill, where he worked diligently for many years. However, his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for craftsmanship led him to establish Woody's Home Improvements, a business through which he could share his love for "piddling" and his remarkable ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. His work was more than a career; it was a labor of love that brought beauty and functionality to countless homes in his community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul found immense joy in the world of drag racing. Many weekends were spent at Shady Side, where the roar of engines and the thrill of the race brought him unparalleled excitement. Paul's enthusiasm for life was contagious, and his zest for adventure was matched only by his deep appreciation for the simple pleasures.
In addition to his immediate family, Paul leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were touched by his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
As we remember Paul, we celebrate a life filled with love and laughter, and a spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and his spirit will live on in the stories we share and the love we continue to hold for him.
A service to honor and celebrate Paul's life will be held at 3:00 pm, on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service, where family and friends will gather to share stories, shed tears, and remember the incredible man who touched so many lives. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
May Paul David Woody rest in eternal peace, with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
