Paul Lee Westmoreland

Paul Lee Westmoreland, 85, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

He was born in McDowell County on March 30, 1936 to the late John Westmoreland and Mary Jane Rector Westmoreland.

Paul left home and moved to Detroit at age 14 to work on cars. He then served honorably in the United States Air Force and Merchant Marines, and he was very proud of his service. He spent the rest of his life as a carpenter, and he was very talented at his work. He was a very soft-spoken man, but when he spoke, his words were profound. He was always eager to learn and enjoyed reading.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Vonsel Westmoreland; and one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his son, Timothy Lee Westmoreland; two grandchildren, Nick Westmoreland and Taylor Westmoreland; and two siblings, Johnny Westmoreland and Carolyn Westmoreland.

Military honors will be provided in honor of Paul’s service at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
