Opal Jean Evans Gibson, 90, of Marion, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026 at Amorem Hospice in Valdese.
She was born in Marion on October 1, 1935 to the late W. Grady and Etta Carver Evans.
Opal was a member of Providence Church. She worked for Etta Packaging for over 52 years. In her free time, she enjoyed working word search puzzles and watching Hallmark movies. She deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, David Franklin Gibson, Jr.; her fiancé, Frank B. Williams; two brothers, William and Ralph Evans; and four sisters, Louise Hall, Arrielee Lowry, Perchieleen Miller, and Doris Bunting.
Left to cherish her memory is her very loving daughter, Deborah Gail Gibson Beam (David); four grandchildren, Craig Gibson (Samantha), Joshua Gibson, Tabatha Cannon, and Caleb Beam (Sheila); nine great-grandchildren, Tiffany Beam Cannon, Logan Cannon, Chrisma, Piper, Godrick, Alexandria, and Castiel Beam, and McKenzie and Jackson Gibson; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Carolyn Hall.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Casey Nichols officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery.
