Norman Lee Arrowood, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 30, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in McDowell County on November 20, 1947, Norman encapsulated the values of love, hard work, and commitment throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Norman served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His service to the nation was a significant part of his identity and reflected his unwavering dedication. Following his military tenure, he enjoyed a notable career spanning over 40 years in the construction industry, completing projects all across the Carolinas. He took immense pride in his work and was known for his professionalism and dedication.
Norman was a cherished member of the Bethel Baptist Church, where he found community and fellowship. His faith was a cornerstone in his life, shaping his values and guiding his interactions with others.
Family was of utmost importance to Norman. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought him great joy and pride. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Wanda Ledbetter Arrowood; his son, Steven Arrowood, and his wife, Renee; his daughter, Tracy Pool, and her husband, Brian; and his sister, Pat Vaughn, and her husband, Larry. Norman's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Haley Duyck and her husband, Caleb; Coleman Arrowood and his wife, Taylor; Gage Pool; and Carley Honeycutt and her husband, Nate. He also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren: Emmie, Luke, Graham, Brooks, Bennett, Tucker, Beau, and Colter. Additionally, Norman shared a special friendship with Tug Nix.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Arrowood and Maxine Romine Arrowood; his sister, Shirley Hensley; and his brother, Robert "Pudge" Arrowood.
The legacy of Norman Lee Arrowood will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a man who embraced life with a generous spirit, warm heart, and strong principles. His family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at the Bethel Baptist Church in Marion, North Carolina, on December 4, 2025. A visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM with Rev. Caleb Duyck officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Norman will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
