Norbert Bernhard Lewald

Norbert Bernhard Lewald, 68, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2025 at The Greens of Spruce Pine.

A native of Germany, he was born April 7, 1957 to Erna Kempe Lewald and the late Bernhard Lewald. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Lewald and Gerald Lewald.

Norbert served proudly in the United States Air Force where he was a mechanic. His greatest love was his Lord, and his life was one filled with service. He formerly attended Washington Avenue Church of God in St. Joseph, Michigan, and later became a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in Marion. Known as a good Samaritan, Norbert traveled to Haiti on two mission trips. He never failed to express to others how blessed he was in this life. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his mother, Erna Lewald, he is survived by his wife, Deborah Lewis; six children, Jonathan Lewald (Chrissy), Joan Lalonde (Scott), Sam Lewald (Michelle), Sara Westall (Bob), Joseph Pitts, and William Pitts; two sisters, Angela Mantei (Vern) and Heike Reeves (David); nineteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Washington Avenue Church of God, 4051 Washington Avenue, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085. A dinner will follow in the fellowship hall.
