Nina McKinney Bowman

Marion, North Carolina

On Friday, December 16, 2022, Nina McKinney Bowman, 91, went to be with the Lord at Rutherford Hospital.

 

Nina was born in Mitchell County North Carolina to Lawrence and Grace Collis McKinney and was one of eight children.

 

Nina graduated from Harris High School and joined the Women’s Army Corps. She was stationed in California and shared memories of the bases at which she served. San Francisco was her favorite city, and she shared many stories of her time there.

 

After completing military service, she went to Warren, Ohio to attend business college. There she worked at General Electric Corporation. After returning to North Carolina, she served at several businesses in payroll and accounting.

 

Nina was a long-time member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and was an active member of the WMU as well as being a part of other church functions.

 

Nina enjoyed reading, and she was an excellent cook. She passed that skill on to her children and grandchildren. She was a strong believer in family traditions.

 

In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth E. “Bill” Bowman. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Guy, Robert, and Jerry McKinney, and Mildred Guthrie.

 

Nina is survived by her children, Carolyn Bowman Gurley (Dan), Laura Trivette (Vance), and Pamela Beres. She is also survived by step-children, Kenneth Bowman, Jr. (Wanda), Pamela Bowman, Larry Bowman (Judy), and Rick Bowman (Lori). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and three siblings, Ralph McKinney, Nancy Hicks, and Evelyn Sexton.

 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Dr. Eric Grindstaff officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
