Nettie "Granny" Kelley

Nettie “Granny” Kelley, age 99, of Marion, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Autumn Care of Marion.  A native of Bostic, North Carolina, born on February 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Nancey Hoyle Lowery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Kelley; and three sons, Arthur Kelley, Allen Kelley and Albert Kelley.

Granny Kelley, who never met a stranger, was known to have never turned anyone away, and in fact if you visited her, she made sure you ate before you left.  She enjoyed crocheting and making quilts with her late twin sister, Hettie Fowler and working in her flower and vegetable garden and canning vegetables.  Granny Kelley truly loved spending time with her family and friends.  She was a member of Marion Church of Christ and had attended Victory Temple Full Gospel Church in Nebo.

She is survived by eight children, Alton Kelley of Old Fort, Annie Mae Smith of Golden Valley, Arnold Kelley of Golden Valley, Aleen Hensley of Marion, Alfred Kelley of Marion, Alice Edwards (Ricky) of Marion, Joey Kelley (Amy) and Justin Kelley (Kendra); and one brother, Julius Lowery of Morganton.  Granny Kelley is also survived by thirty-three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1st, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion.  Granny Kelley will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Frank, at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton.

Oh my sweet ,precious how broken yet happy my heart is .. looking at this precious face was looking at my mommas .even though they were just cousins her and her twin Hettie and momma Effie Lowery Ballard looked more like triplets .. I can be happy because I know where she is today ..to be absent from the flesh is to be present with the Lord .... I love you all , and know exactly how well you each took care of Granny .. my prayers for peace and comfort to each .
